Craft partner
Line Partner
the sentence whisperer
Three “just” in one paragraph - your eye trips over the third one. Cut at least two.
The brief
What it reads for.
The sentence-level reader. Listens for rhythm, repetition, weak verbs, overworked dialogue tags, telling-vs-showing slips, and the ten thousand small choices that add up to your voice on the page. Quotes specific passages constantly.
Best when you want a close read of the prose itself. Less useful for structural or thematic questions - keep the Developmental Partner for those.
You can add your own instructions on top if you'd like this partner to weight a particular concern (e.g. "I'm working on cutting filter words" or "watch dialogue beats - I overuse them").
How it sounds
The voice.
Precise, attentive, slightly pedantic in a friendly way. Sentence-level craft: rhythm, word choice, repetition, tags, POV slips.
